Day three- PCF 2011- they're getting easier!

So here I am, one week past the end of The Fair, still working on a recitation of the third day....still playing catch-up in many areas, and completely resigned to not getting up to speed in others.
Some might be wondering what happened to Eldest? Why has she not been in any pictures? Well, Eldest did not take any animal projects again to The Fair this year, so doesn't come into play until Day 3. Plus, she is having fun running around with friends instead of watching the nuances of showing ducks.
But, Day 3 of The Fair is her big day, with three projects to be judged - one of which she thought was being judged on Friday, but found out in time to get it together and be at judging on time.
She was judged in Global Gourmet, Family History and Scrapbooking on Wednesday. Youngest was being judged on his Fun With Quick Breads project.
We arose early on Wednesday morning to head home, do barn chores and collect the necessary items for the 10 a.m. judge time. Needless to say, organization is not a integral part of these children's routines. This makes preparation unnecessarily hectic.
It is possible,
to do it differently.
In any case with 45 seconds to spare, we arrived at the gates to The Fair, and I shoved kids out to get to the Grange Building and sign in- only I couldn't park. The rain had continued, and the proliferation of juveniles in trucks had made the field normally used as parking lot into a mudswamp unusable by minivans. So, instead, I went back to the campers and switched cars. Blondie was up to the task. I headed back up in 4 wheel drive and slid around sideways until I "parked", hauling a tray piled with floral placemat, napkin, antique gold rimmed crystal, mismatched silverplate and a bowl full of manicotti. Hooked over my pinkie was a jug stuffed with  garden lilies and beebalm. On my arm? A basket with strawberry bread, a tin of butter, pink lemonade with rose petals and the eclectic selection of place setting items chosen by Youngest. With mud sucking my boots at each step I struggled to wrestle my fair pass out of my pocket. Then, there they were, Youngest and Eldest on the other side of the gate to help collect and carry their things! Miracles happen everyday.
They pressed through their judged events, receiving "A" grades for all 4 projects, and sigh- we were done for a while! Now, to enjoy The Fair!
Youngest gets set up for the judge. Note folding of napkin in ring, a red and white theme in his linen selection (to highlight the strawberry bread) and the roses in a pad of tinfoil....

The judge tries a small piece of bread.

Eldest gets ready to answer a question from the judge.

Discussing the elements of Global Gourmet-ness.

Youngest gets his picture taken for the newspaper.
